Global health financing for oxygen systems
Medical oxygen is a lifesaving therapy with no substitute. Yet, 60 percent of the world’s population lacks access, with low- and middle-income countries bearing the greatest burden.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) began this week the distribution of 100 oxygen concentrators intended for the emergency services of the network of maternal and pediatric hospitals in Cuba, as part of its cooperation program to strengthen maternal and infant care on the Island.

Any oxygen concentrator has several costs over its lifetime. The cost that is most familiar and easily understood is the upfront or initial cost of the device. However, if we look at the total cost of operating an oxygen concentrator over its five year lifetime, there are two other
significant costs that we need to…

Drive DeVilbiss and Sanrai International are pleased to announce the successful installation of the PulmO2 10L Concentrators in Burundi. This installation was supported by DAK International Network (formerly DAK Foundation), Gould Family Foundation, and Lifenet International. These units are some of the very first PulmO2 devices to be shipped!

While the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the horrors that can occur with a lack of medical oxygen, there was no independent analysis on access to oxygen. On 17 February 2025, the Lancet Global Health Commission on Medical Oxygen Security…

Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare, a world leading manufacturer of oxygen solutions and Sanrai International, an expert in underserved markets, held the global unveiling of the new PulmO2 10 L Oxygen Concentrator.

Amidst the chaos of the Covid-19 pandemic, a crucial issue came to light: oxygen concentrators built for well-resourced healthcare systems were being repurposed in vastly under-resourced environments worldwide. In such conditions, these machines struggled to withstand heat, humidity, and power outages, and were…

The Oxygen CoLab, funded by UK International Development, has spent the last three years working with partners from around the world to accelerate global access to oxygen in low-resource-settings.

Air – it’s our most basic need. It’s far more vital than water, food, or medicine. People can survive just minutes without its most important component: oxygen.
But in much of the world, people struggling to breathe lack access to medical oxygen, a treatment that makes the difference between life and death.

Far too many people died from lack of oxygen during the COVID-19 crisis, and far too many are dying unnecessarily today from other conditions because medical oxygen is not routinely available. Now, the global response to shortages that took shape during the pandemic needs to evolve for the long term.
